An interjection is a word or expression that occurs as an utterance on its own and expresses a spontaneous feeling or reaction. It is a diverse category, encompassing many different parts of speech, such as exclamations, curses, greetings, response particles, hesitation markers and other words.

హఠాత్తుగా కలిగే భావాల్ని (Sudden Feelings) వ్యక్తపరిచేందుకు ఉపయోగించే మాటలను Interjection Words అంటారు. సాధారణంగా ఈ మాటలు వాక్యం నుండి విడిగా ఉంటాయి. ఈ మాటలకూ పక్కన ఉండే వాక్యాలు మామూలు వాక్యాలుగాను ఉండొచ్చు. లేదా అవి కూడా భావోద్రేకాన్ని ప్రకటించే వాక్యాలుగానూ ఉండొచ్చు. రెండో రకంగా ఉండే వాక్యాలను Exclamatory వాక్యాలు అంటారు. ఉదాహరణకు "వావ్..! అమ్మాయి చాల అందంగా ఉంది" అనేది మామూల వాక్యమైతే "వావ్..! అమ్మాయి ఎంత అందంగా ఉందొ !" అనేది Exclamatory వాక్యమోతుంది.
